Summer Music Camp Scholarship

NWSMTA will provide camp scholarships of $300 to the 1st place winners in each division-junior & senior- and $200 to the 2nd place winners in each division-junior & senior.
Entry deadline:  May 1
Junior Division:  through 8th grade
Senior Division: 9th through 12th grade

Entrance Requirements

Entrants must submit the following materials to the chairperson of the Scholarship Committee by the deadline of April 15:

  • A video of their performance via YouTube,  using an unlisted setting, representing at least three contrasting styles, not to exceed ten minutes for junior entries or fifteen minutes for senior entries.  Each piece shall be played in its entirety.  Repeats are at the discretion of the teacher.  Do not put the teacher's name on the recording.
  • A completed application form.
  • A list of contents of the recording in the order played.  The title of each piece, as well as opus numbers or collections, and composers should be included.
  • An essay not to exceed 200 words stating why the student would like to attend a summer music camp.
  • A summary of participation in musical activities sponsored by NWSMTA and in school, church and community.


Scholarship Rules

  • Students must currently study the instrument they are auditioning with (piano, voice, etc.) from a member of NWSMTA whose dues have been paid by June 30th of the previous year.  The teacher of the student must be a member of NWSMTA for at least 2 years.
  • The student recordings and materials will be forwarded by the scholarship committee chair to a judge who is not a member of NWSMTA.  The judge will select a 1st & 2nd place winner in each division.
  • Scholarship money will be sent directly to the summer music camp of the student's choice.  
  • The committee/judge has the right to declare no winner.
