Grants for Professional Development

GOAL OF PROGRAM
  • To support NWSMTA members in the pursuit of one further education or musical experience that will benefit both the individual and NWSMTA.

GRANT INFORMATION
  • Maximum amount of each grant is not to exceed $500.00 with the total of all NWSMTA grants not to exceed $2,000.00.
  • Applicant must be a current active member of NWSMTA for two complete years plus active participation in one NWSMTA committee or as officer for at least one year.
  • Open to teachers of all instruments and voice.
  • Grant may cover event after September 1 of 2025 with eligible expenses incurred being reimbursed if grant is awarded (example: ISMTA Conference in October-November).
  • Preference given to applicants who have not been previous recipients.
  • Applicant must share experience with NWSMTA membership through an article or interview for the NWSMTA Newsletter.
  • Applications will be reviewed by a committee of three persons. NWSMTA President/

TIMELINE
  • Deadline for completed applications: January 15, 2026
  • OTE: Applicant may prepay fees to ensure registration or a lower rate with reimbursement given if the grant is awarded.
  • Submit to Chair/NWSMTA President.
  • Recipients announced by February 1.
 
APPLICATION PROCESS
All information below should be in one document/file (Word or PDF).
 
Application Materials
  • Current contact information including name, address, phone and email.
  • Brief description of applicant’s educational/musical experiences
  • Current musical activity: if teaching, length of time/studio description plus any other participation in music including NWSMTA
  • Description of proposed activity for grant including plan for use of funds including registration fee and cost of materials but not to include food, housing or travel-related expenses.
  • Short statement about why this experience will be of benefit to applicant.
  • This grant is not a need-based award, but the applicant may indicate need, if desired.
 
 DISPERSAL OF AWARDS
  • Recipient will receive half of the approved total after registration or proof of intent is provided in writing to Grant Chair/NWSMTA President.  
  • Remainder of grant will be awarded after recipient shares description about the educational/musical experience by writing a summary for the NWSMTA Newsletter.
