2010 Emilio del Rosario Concerto Competition Winners

Thanks to all who participated in this year's Awards and EDR Concerto Competitions.  Award Competition winners and honorable mentions were presented with checks and certificates on Sunday, May 16 at the Emilio del Rosario Concerto Competition final round at Harper College .  Judges for this year's Awards Competition's Elementary, Intermediate and Senior Divisions were Juanita Nash and Craig Sale.  Judges for Awards Junior Divison were Elaine Smith and Dr. William Koehler. 

Judges for the EDR Junior Division preliminary round were Dr. Ludmila Lazar and Prof. Julian Dawson.  Judges for the EDR Senior Division preliminary round were Alexander Djordjevic and Dr. William Koehler.

Rules and Regulations

Contest Date:  Saturday, April 17, 2010

Entry Deadline: 

Postmarked or emailed no later than March 17, 2010

Entry fees:

            $20 per student for NWSMTA members

            $50 per student for ISMTA members

            *Checks payable to NWSMTA.  Entry fees are nonrefundable.

Eligibility and Rules:

• Teachers will submit one entry form and one entry check for all his or her students.

• NWSMTA teachers must attend at least two regular meetings from the months of September through February in order to enter students in the Awards Competition.  This rule may be waived at the discretion of the President, First Vice-President and the Awards Chairperson(s) in the case of a member who renders exceptional service of value to the full NWSMTA membership, but may be unable to fulfill the two meeting requirement.  A written request for such a waiver must be submitted to the Awards Chairperson(s) by the competition deadline.  Meeting attendance must be verified by written sign-in on the attendance list.

• Each teacher must serve as a room monitor on the day of the competition.  Substitutes are allowed.

• Students shall be eligible for entry as follows:

Elementary Division	age 10 and under
Junior Division	age 12 and under
Intermediate Division	age 15 and under
Senior Division	age 18 and under

• Students may enter only one division.

• Students are responsible for bringing original scores (no photocopies) of their selections to the competition.  All measures must be numbered.

• Compositions must be selected from the Awards Repertoire List.  One from List A and one from List B.  They may be performed in any order.  All pieces must be memorized.  No repeats.

• Students are allowed one scale as a warm-up.  No applause should follow any performance.  Photographing, videotaping or audio taping is not allowed.

• Judges will be selected by the Awards Competition Chairperson(s) from either piano faculty of colleges or conservatories, or piano teachers considered experts in their field.  Judges will not be members of NWSMTA.

• Judges' decisions are final.

• First-prize winners cannot re-enter the same division the following year.
